International youth exchange

  • ·        Youth camps (age group varies per youth camp, generally from 15-21)

Rotary clubs around the world organise youth camps to learn more about other people’s culture and to create international understanding, they are often themed around sports, music, culture, environment, etc. Only 1 student per district can take part, to ensure a place make sure the application form is complete and sent and we can then match the student with relevant youth camps. Each year we receive 40+ invitations for youth camps, so there is plenty of choice, costs and duration vary depending on the destination and trip. http://www.youthribi.org/campstours/default.asp

  • ·        New Generations Youth Exchange – (18-25 age group)

The New Generations exchange is aimed at the 18-25 age groups and includes a vocational element, where the student either attends classes or a work-placement or voluntary contribution placement for the duration of their stay. Students will be ambassadors for Rotary district 1160 and attend local club meetings in their respective host club and district. Upon return they will also be asked to present in their sponsoring rotary club and district meetings. Outbound students will need to fund part of their travel and stay, as well as assist in finding host families for inbound new generation students.

  •  ·       Short term family to family or long-term exchange (1 full school year)

Rotary also has youth exchange programmes on offer where an exchange from one house to the other is invited and usually with students of similar age, gender and interests. A student from our district goes to stay with the student abroad and then they do a return visit, duration tends to be between 2 and 3 weeks each side. For the long term youth exchange students will attend a local school for a full academic year and an inbound exchange student will then attend the same in our district. These exchanges require pre-selection and orientation and costs will vary. Each outbound student will be asked to assist in finding 3 host families for inbound students.
